Hi, I just found this site and it seems to be a valuable source of information.

I'm having a problem with the patch. I downloaded the latest Outcast patch (the one with 11+ MB) and tried to install it, but the installation failed, giving me an error message that the patch would not install with an illegal copy, but I have a perfectly legal copy (I even have a cool mousepad with all the game commands [8D] )...

Could someone help me? My system is a Duron 850 MHz w/ 256 MB RAM and Windows XP. When I first installed Outcast, it ran well, no lockups or crashes at all, but the framerate was sloooow... that is why I decided to try the patch. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi,

Patch 3 has to be applied prior to the game installation. If you want to try it you'll have to make a backup copy of your saved games. Then you'll have to uninstall the game and remove it from your HDD. Thereafter run patch 3 and answer all the questions. It will ask you to insert Outcast CD1. Follow installation procedure until the end. Finally restore your saved games.

Many thanks, Nuelan... [up]

I'll try that as soon as I get home. BTW, what does exactly the patch changes and/or fixes? I can't seem to get that info anywhere.

Unfortunately, there is no details about the bugs fixed in Patch 3. Here is everything you can get about it:

Well, I managed to install the patch and the game flawlessly. But my main gripe remain: Outcast is too slow on my system, which supposedly should be able to handle the game without effort (check my first post above).

Is there any configuration I can change that could make the game run smoother?
I tried to tweak various features but to no avail (even when I turned most things "off" or "low" I only managed to get 1 or 2 more frames - I'm using FRAPS to determine what are my fps values). The funny thing is when I press ESC to bring the main menu, my fps value goes up to 60! [eek]

I guess it has to do with DirectX or something like that (after all, Outcast required DirectX 6 when it was released, and I suspect of some incompatibility with the latest DirectX version).

Sorry for the long post. Can anyone help me?

Well I think your prob is related to your CPU. In the past, we heard about some probs like yours with Outcast and the Duron. I'm not sure if there is something to do unfortunately [:/]
