Hey,

Was just wondering if anyone here could help me. I've just started playing Outcast again and i'm getting a really annoying problem with the music. It plays but not normally, it sounds all messed up as thought its being fast forwarded or something. I've search alot of forums and haven't found anyone else with this problem. I'm running win2k on a AMD Athlon 1.33Ghz with 768mb of ram and I've got a creative labs SB Live! Player. It also doesn't appear to be running as smoothly as it should on a reasonably fast machine. Thanks

Andy

Hello -newBoy-

I don't think Win2K is cause of your problem ...
Many people face sound problems with Outcast, but reasons are various ...
Maybe disabling 3D sound and/or EAX in the game options ...

Dunno if it's the same with the SB Live, but my Audigy has several "comedy" presets for EAX that mess with the sound such as "chipmunk".

You haven't enabled one of these by any chance?

Hey,

Thanks for the help, I haven't managed to get it working yet tho. I don't have EAX enabled and I've tried disabling most of the sound options. I also don't have EAX stuck in chipmunk mode either :) its only the music thats the problem. I've tried it on my friends machine which is running a totally different sound card and XP and it does the same thing, which leads me to believe its the evil NT deamons. Ah well, spose i'll have to load up windows 98 :(.

Oh yeah, and I'd disagree with the comment on win2k not meant for playing games, i know what you meant but pretty much any non DOS game will work with a little tweakage ;).

Thanks

Andy

P.S. I'll let you know if it was win2k.

(sorry, had to add that :))

Ah you have w2000. Try to put your sound hardware acceleration to minimum.

Well, I can run it on XP, so I guess you can run it on Win2K as well...

You can download it at www.microsoft.com

If someone reads this who has the same problem:
I solved it by lowering the audio hardware acceleration to basic. A drawback is that you won't be able to activate 3D sound anymore.

I hope there's still a better solution.

Hi to all Outcast fans!!!
I' m trying to play for a second time this wonderful game on Windows XP. All is OK, I didn't need any patch to install correctly (in Win98 i 've need the DirectX patch) but... there is no music!! There are sounds (wind, speeches, water, guns etc.), but I can't hear the best game music I've ever heard playing a game and it's a pity!!! [ouin] (Although I have made an audio CD with the soundtrack music...)
I have an Athlon XP 2200, an Asus motherbard with a sound card on-board. Does anyone know how to solve this problem [?] (except installing the game on Win98...)

Hi !
A lot of us had this problem ... You run the game for the first time, everything is OK, music is great ... You re-install the game, and suddenly : no music !
I had the problem as well ... But unfortunatelly, I didn't find anything to silve it ...
It's still a mistery so far ... [:/] [;)]
