I tried to install the American version of Outcast on my Windows 2000 machine without success. I noticed that there is an installer "patch" or program on this site, but the description states that you will get an error message saying that the UnInstaller cannot be installed.

I'm worried about installing something that cannot be properly uninstalled, even though there is a suggestion on the site that there is a technique for uninstalling when you use the patch. I think there might be a slight language issue which makes it confusing as to the proper procedure. Is this the only way there is to load or install the program in Windows 2000? Can anyone who has used the installer and then uninstalled please share their experience here?

Thanks

Download the official patch n°3 - ftp://ftp2.outcastii.net/outcastik/OutcastPatch.exe - launch it and follow the procedure. Remember that the patch must be launched before any installation of the game. There is no special issue with win2k.

Thanks for all the good suggestions. The patch worked just fine, and now I'm playing Outcast on my Windows 2000 machine.

I had the game for four or five months, and never had a chance to play it. Now that I have I am really impressed. The opening movie and music are quite powerful and dramatic. When you wake up in Adelpha you really begin to get immersed in the environment, helped by the way the aliens notice and react to you. The movements of the aliens are quite fluid, and the aliens themselves seem possessed of some sort of intelligence. All of this makes up for the low res of the graphics, which nevertheless I find pleasing.

I am looking forward to playing this game, and I'm surprised, based on my positive experience thus far, that Outcast 2 was canceled. What an amazing game!

To save games, use the "Gaamsavv" (select it from your inventory or press F2) ...

Thanks. I found the directions in the instruction book, which I hadn't read...so eager was I to jump into Adelpha!

One weird thing though. I am not able to access many of the options...except for mouse sensitivity and a couple of other things. When I click on the buttons which are supposed to bring up the display options, for example, nothing happens.

Also, has anybody had success with the high res patch in Windows 2000?

Thanks

You can't access graphics options in game. You have to start the loader and go to settings. Mouse sensitivity and the volume of music and sound are the only things you can change in games. [loll] I think.

I'm not trying to change the game settings while I'm in the game, but right at startup. In order to start a game I click on the shortcut which I placed on my desktop, and get a startup menu with options. It looks just like the picture of the option menu in the manual, with little buttons ringing around the top of the circular startup menu. The problem is none of those little buttons are responsive, except for the ones dealing with mouse sensitivity, and volume, I think.

Otherwise the game plays normally. Have you tried, by the way, the high res is patch that you can download from this site?

Thanks.

What an amazing game!!

I would try running the game in compatibility mode. First, right click on the short cut to Outcast, then click compatibility. Then try the different modes of compatibility. I always try windows 95 first, then if that doesn't work 98. This works for a few of my games. Sorry, but I only tried the patch on XP once, with no success. [duel]
