Does anyone know how I can set Outcast so that the camera angle is automatic a la Tomb Raider?

I am finding playing this game impossible using either keyboard & mouse or regular gamepad, as at the moment I'm having to control the player view as well as the player direction. Is this a bug or did Infogrames intend the game to play this way. I'm pretty sure that the original advertising for the game stated that the camera angle was automatic.

Wel no, the camera angle is controllled with your mouse. This also controls the way Cutter is facing. So if you turn the mouse, Cutter will turn too.
The keyboard is used to move Cutter, and it's always relative to the camera. If you press up, Cutter will move away from the camera, for example.
I think this system is very good, since the camera in Tomb Raider wasn't too good.

The modus of camera angle you describe is fine for first person perspective games, such as Half Life & Deux EX, but unless I'm missing something Outcast is a third person perspective, like Tomb Raider, is it not?

In third person perspective I find this method of operation awkward to say the least. Please, please tell me that there's a Half Life perspective option that I can use instead?

Don't understand ... but anyway, First person view (not optimal for this game) is CTRL-right ... (it's in the manual) ... [;)]

Like Zigue said, the game has not been optimised for first person view, but when you speak about Tomb Raider's camera control, i say : Outcast's one is far best ! And it works very good with keyboard/mouse or ... joystick with forcefeedback when the game wants! ( Please Zigue don' t hurt me !!! [xx(](me) [moder](Zigue) .... [;)] )

But i think you' d better keep the third person view : in "doom-like mode" you will lose a lot of details about Cutter moves, vision, etc...

I'll try & be a bit more descriptive.

The way things stand at the moment I can only move (or turn) Cutter with the keyboard keys. The mouse only controls the camera angle & has no affect on Cutter himself. For me this is a bit like patting my head & rubbing my chest at the same time. When I move the camera angle Cutter doesn't point in that direction.

I suppose what I'm saying is that it's not as straight forward as the control mechanism in Jedi Knight Outcast (no relation) when you're using the light sabre. In Jedi Knight Outcast you use the mouse to change your characters direction & the camera angle automatically follows.
