I tried to play Outcast today, but to my surprise I encountered serious technical difficulties. The music wasn't functioning! Having selected to start a new game, an error message popped up. It said "bad audio tracks" and had me select a "yes box" before I could proceed.

Well ... The introduction videos started to play and all. I thought it would work just fine. Then the actual game began, and the music was nowhere to be seen [heard?]. Some nasty error had robbed me of the greatest aspect of Outcast. All I could hear was the sound effects and the voice acting.

Any ideas on how to counter the problem? I tried to make a clone cd version of my original Outcast cd 2, which made the popup disappear, but changed nothing in terms of the actual problem. I still didn't get any music.

I know this message board suffers from inactivity, but I'll take my chances. Please help me on this one!

Hi !
I had the same problem (besides error message) : the first time I played Outcast I had all the sounds (music intro, and so on) but when I reinstalled the game : no more music !
I haven't try to solve the problem I must say ...
Maybe I'll take a deeper look one of these days ...

Do you have XP? If yes put the hardware acceleration of your sound card to zero. Do it anyway if you don't have XP to check.

I get the same problem, but I found a way to fix it.
When you put in the CD and it brings up the menu, let it read the CD for a while. Even for a few minutes. Then it works fine.

To fix this, open the CD player that comes with windows before launching outcast, and play a couple of seconds of music. Then close the CD player and launch outcast.

You can also just try to start it a few times. Usually 1 of 5 attempts get me in game with music.

First of all i think every aspect of this and most other games are important due to their professional production!
Now to your problem..i even play Outcast and my problem is..tata..partially missing sounds !! I don´t know why!?!?
My brother had the same problem like you..no music..why...no idea!
I think it´s a windows xp problem,but it´s just a presumption !!
Sorry that i can´t help you but as you see you are not alone!! A possible solution of your prob. could be after copy your save file, uninstall OC and then reinstall it in combination with the patch! The patch installing before or after the main CD...try out and good luck!!!

How did you convert an in-game clip (how did you cap it in the first place???) to a gif-file (assuming it's an animated gif...)?

Nice work btw...

yes, indeed, it´s a gif-file...but it is not an ingame clip!!
I put into the "Cutter enjoys his stay on Adelpha" [:)] -gif (maybe 25 to 35 single pics.!?) a screenshot from Halo, which i´d edited before with photoshop! I cutted out the Masterchief sitting in his vehicle(named Ghost!), created a matched shadow(the cutted out pic i filled with black colour and then made it a bit lucency) and finally let appear this hero, who lost his way ,begin with the 10th picture of the gif and then put it in one by one of all the other single images! The shadow of the gost;at this time it covered Cutter; i had to cutting out and adjusting too til it passed Cutter...well, then it was finished!!
Not so difficult, but a lot of work for such a little gif!! However..it makes fun!!
