I Can't Start Outcast

Postby schwiney » 3 Jun 2006, 22:41

I'm baffled.

I used patch#3 to install the game and I was successful. In fact I installed it two ways...I answered "yes" for the North America version and then "no" when i installed it a second time. When I answered "yes" it would not recognize that CD2 was in the drive. When I answered "no" it did. So i stuck with that.

The movies on Disc#1 plays fine....looks like its a good story.

The Loader starts. It brings up the circular image and I start a new game. The logo screen animation plays and unfortunately the game crashes to the desktop or it freezes.

I have tried all of the Loaders downloaded from this site but no luck.

I tried reinstalling using just the 1st patch. The installation was successful but I can't get past the open screen animation using the loaders.

I tried turning off hardware acceleration for my TNT2 video card and my sound card but no luck.

I tried changing the resolution of my monitor but no luck.

My OS is WIN98SE
I have an AMD AThlon 600 MhZ
I have 320 Megs RAM
I have Direct X9.0

I'm baffled...can anyone help me??

Thanks,
Jim

Music too loud now

Postby schwiney » 4 Jun 2006, 23:44

I'm wondering if its an AMD chip issue. I was able to install on my PII 400 using the 3rd patch and the 1st loader in the zip file.

However, now i have a problem with the music volume. No matter how i set the balance its way too loud. It drowns out the conversations. Can anyone help me with that???

when i first played the game i realized that the launcher pointed to the wrong thing. back then i think i changed it to point to a loader.exe file. but with the 2 disk CD version I just installed, i simply changed the shortcut properties to point to D:\Outcast.exe where D is the cd/dvd rom drive letter and CD number 2 is in the drive. That's using no patches.

Regarding sound - notice that there are two sound controls. one is over all volume. the other is balance between background music and dialog.

I love this game. [luv]

BTW, i am playing on windows XP. if you right click the programs menu launcher for the game and go to properties, there is a compatibility tab. select 256 colors and 640x480. If win98se doesn't have this compatibility tab, try these choices on your desktop settings when you play. experiment a little.
