This is very strange, I am unable to play Outcast on a decent framerate at res 512. I recently reinstalled the game and thought it would run great, but in fact the game runs worse than on my old P2 400 back in the days.

Does anyone know a solution to this problem? I guesse this game isn't optimized for my hardware, but still, a 1.3 running worse than a 400 is a little strange.

My system is the following:

AMD Tbird 1.3
256 megs SDram
Sb Live
GeF 3 regular

Is there even a solution for the problem?

Thanks for your reply.

PS: I know this board isn't really active, but it seems to be the only Outcast board in existance, which is pretty sad considering Outcast is such a great game.

Welcome to the boards, TheBud.
Well, maybe you have a lot of programs (like virusscanners, firewalls,...) running in the background? If so, try running OC again after shutting them down. You might try to check the .ini file and tweak the game a little (make a backup first, just in case you screw up). Or maybe your computer is just too "überized", as I like to call it.

PS: Indeed this is one of the few OC boards still in existence, and it's pretty dead. It all started to be this way when appeal went bankrupt, I guess. Damn shame.

Well, I usually close all my applications before running a game. I do this through the taskbar, so I'm pretty sure no other programs are running at the same time.

What's also very strange, is that it runs on a low fps fluently, it's not as if the game's aggressively eating up all my recources. Could it be that I should adjust some CPU, RAM settings in my bios? The game seems to be optimized for something that I don't commonly use. I would suspect that my AMD CPU isn't optimized for the game, considering the AMD CPU's back then (K6) were extremely weak compared to intel's processors. But I don't know this for sure, I just heard it somewhere and it fits in what I'm having right now.

I heard that someone left appeal prior to the closure of the company. And that its first game was something very much like Outcast, and would even be in Adelpha as well.

Welcome to the board. I was wondering, what version of Windows are you running? When my Athlon 1 gig. was running Windows 2000, the framerate was pretty bad, but when I upgraded to XP it runs fine now. Also I've noticed alot of games that are incompatible with a certain kind of sound card, will slow a game down, significantly. That's just a guess, though. Do you have any concrete evidence of the game that would take place in Adelpha? Sorry to be skeptical... Any websites?

Hi
I also have the problem with outcast running slow on my computer.
But it´s just the dialougwindows that is slow??? Why??? The only thing I have done is reinstalled Outcast after a couple of mounths of non-playing. I used the same patches as the first time and the game i working smouthly except from the slow dialouge windows. It´s really annoying (it´s not even fun to play).

Please help me, what is the problem!!!

Hey do you know any other swedish members on this site (except from me(you have to excuse my bad english))

On behalf of everyone on this site, I'd like to say welcome. Could you please post your computer's stats? That's the only way if I know anything is wrong in your computer. By the way I'm an American and I'm not sure if there are any Swedish in here. [moder]

Yes Ok
My computer is a P3 450, 96Mb ram, Matrox Millennium G400 32Mb
Outcast was working just fine on this one before, why should´t work now?
Thank you for answering on this one.

Hm I might be the only one from Sweden on this site(guess I talk for my hole country then(shit[8D]))

Hope this will do.

That's strange. Try running it in compatability mode. [:/]
