Anyone managed to get OutCast higher then 640x480? Heard it's unstable even at 640x480, just wanted to test it. Modifying the inis don't seem to be even able to get it to 640x480 for me, it just stays at 512x384. However, I've been looking in the exes and it looks like it supports 640x480 in the exes which would explain why this works but highers res usually don't perhaps...

Well, if i were you, i wouldn't do that even if I could, because even in 640x480 it gives a lot of problems, so i cant't imagine what would happen in 800x600 or so

You can run at 640 by changing the outcast.ini file. This requires the DirectX 7.0 patch. The important thing is the order you do things...

0: If you are running Windows XP ...
find the file oc3.exe in the installation folder,
right-click it (mouse button 2) and select the compatibility tab,
check the box labelled "run this in compatibility mode for"
select Windows 98/me

1: Click your shortcut/start the Outcast launcher (where you can changes settings, etc)

2: Edit the Outcast.ini Display setting ...
(Scroll to the bottom and find the lines for width/height...)

[Display]
VideoWidth=640
VideoHeight=480
ScreenWidth=640
ScreenHeight=480
FullScreen=1

3: Very IMPORTANT : save the ini file and change it's properties to READ ONLY
(right-click the file and select properties)

4: switch back to the launcher and Start/Load a game.

This must be done EACH TIME you start a game.

ALSO

The game will crash to desktop when trying to play movies, so save and exit before teleporting to a different area, start without modifying the file, load and teleport, save, and then repeat 1-4 ... and if you die you will also CTD
