one great mod idea, to my opinion, would actually be to play the bad guy ... you know, the other side of the mirror, same time, same stoyline, same setting, but you're playing Kroax ... the evil kroax, you would have many quests to kill some Talan, you would need to keep your reputation up (especially with Maar) etc ... try to spread terror, and make people respect you ... even though in the end everything would get screwed up because of one guy in orange ...

If anyone who is strong in coding would like to start this adventure, I would LOVE to scenarise it all ...

You're right, there's lots of coding. But you missed something : what about voices, for exemple ?

Yes! your idea is good, i have a scenario in mind too, but for an other "project", BUT i think you may have to wait some weeks before it can be realized... unless Jfrey, Skemeth, Dominion, MR and others knows now how to make a true mod...

Jfrey, for the voice you can make a text only game like morrowind.
Of course, we loose lot of "OC spirit" but we have no other choice...excepted if someone in this forum got a little sound studio [;)]

Can't we do a little "cut and paste" ? Like, opening the original sound files for Kroax, cut some words and paste them in a new file?

MR, you 're not alone to have thought to this, but i don' t understand wht it' s not possible ? I think the only problem we can have is with the tone of voices... but if we can try...

what about voice ? you take a micorphone, a good sound program, and with your own voice you can do tons of characters ... no really, that's not the big deal ... well of course the voices won't be like the original, but, hey, this is a MOD, is it not ?
Anyway, I'm working on the scenario right now, if anyone is interrested in coding all this, well welcome to Outcast : Another Story ...
I guess I'll make a whole thread for it ... well I guess i'll stop rightingf right now and do it ^^

at the moment the thing of the voices could not be realized because there is no wave-sfx converter ;) (so, no converter I know....)

In fact, .sfx sounds are compressed with the GSM06.10 algorithm.
Microsoft provide a GSM06.10 CODEC with Windows ;o)
But is not compatible with Appeal's frame format :o(
coz they use 65-byte-frames (2 x 32 1/2) rather than rounding to 33,
and they number the bits in their bytes from the other end.
(Well done, guys.)

Appeal's implementation turns frames of 160 16-bit linear samples
into 33-byte frames (1650 Bytes/s).

you can download the .sfx converter tool
SFXCONV 1.00

sfx->wav
=======
sfxconv.exe kick2.sfx
-> kick2.sfx.wav

wav->sfx
=======
sfxconv.exe mynewkick.wav
-> mynewkick.wav.sfx

PS:.wav file must be in 16 bits, PCM format at 11025 or 22050Khz.
