Interview with Yves Grolet:, 2 Sep 2002

1.) Since when exactly you are working on NeoWorld?
Yves: We are working on this concept and technology since 2 years.

2.) When will first real screenshots from a NeoMatter game going to be released?
Yves: We don't know yet, but we hope to show the potential to this new rendering technology next year.

3.) When will Project Alpha come out?
Yves: Nothing is fixed yet, we are still in the early stage.

4.) Will the game be one big world or split into level 1-10?
Yves: Nothing is fixed yet, we are still in the early stage.
But NeoWorld allow the development of free rooming games as well as linear games. We are also thinking about a combination of both.

5.) Will the game be linear or non-linear?
Yves: Nothing is fixed yet, we are still in the early stage. We just can say that our NeoDrama technology (AI and interactive story telling) will allow stories in games to unfold in a non-linear way. That mean that the events in the stories will be different (in order and in nature) depending of the player actions. This will greatly increase the replay value of our future games.

6.) Can you describe a little bit the world of project alpha? is it a dark future world like in Fallout or what?
Yves: We can't disclose these kinds of details, sorry.

7.) Do you focus more on the action part of the game or is the adventure part more important?
Yves: We can't disclose these kinds of details, sorry. But remember that NeoDrama is focused on interactive story telling.
That means a lot socio-emotional relationship in-between the characters (player and NPC). This not implies an adventure side to the future
games that will be made with NeoDrama because this interactive storytelling can be directly integrated with the gameplay of an action game.

8.) It says: interactive storytelling: can you describe this a little bit more?
Yves: The interactive story telling that will be found in games based on NeoDrama will allow the NPC to react differently in regards to the player actions. These NPC socio-emotional reactions will be most of the time permanent in time. To better understand what is NeoDrama, just imagine the reputation system found in Outcast generalised in the form of multiple relationships per characters. And imagine that these relationships generate actions that are tuned to show the themes of the story of a given game. This is for this reason that NeoDrama is the conceptual continuation of
the work we have done on Outcast concerning the AI and the interactive story telling.

9.) On which systems the engine is currently running?
Yves: NeoMater will run on all next gen consoles and on PC.

10.) Who will be the Publisher of Project - Alpha?
Yves: Nothing can be disclosed about our publisher yet.

Merci Lorenz ! [respect]

July 30, 2003

Minister Kubla of the Economy, SME's and Research of the Walloon Region of Belgium has awarded to Elsewhere Entertainment a free-interest loan of EUR 1.6 Mio to finance the company's research and development efforts over the next 2 years. This will allow the company to further develop and considerably enhance its video game production platform (called NeoReality) and to finance the development of a new game prototype. Elsewhere's NeoReality technology is used in the production of our games intended to be played on the PC and current generation of video game consoles (PlayStation2, Xbox, Gamecube). The aid from the Walloon Region will allow us to add to our team, in the coming months, at least 10 new employees (R&D engineers, artists,...). They will work on the development of several innovative, proprietary and reusable pieces of software : real-time 3D graphic rendering, physics simulation engine, artificial intelligence systems, advanced animation tools, game-specific scripting language,... This will give us the critical mass in terms of team size and financial muscle to successfully compete against the other industry players in France, UK, Germany, and the rest of Europe.

Sur un autre site j'ai trouver aussi cela

Yves Grolet just told me that their website was updated. There are 3 new screenshots shown and some interesting facts about the further development of the company.
Elsewhere Entertainment has receved EUR 1,6 Mio funding from the Walloon Region of Belgium to substain their R&D efforts. With this money Elsewhere Entertainemnt searches for 10 new developers for their games for PC and next generation consoles. If you are interessted on a job you can send an e-mail to them.
