Illegal version .... ? what the hell? - HELP

Well this is odd .... Yesterday I tried to install Outcast (for old time's sake [smokin2] ) and it went perfectly. But.... when I tried to install patch #3 it kept saying I've got the illegal version of the game and that the patch only works on the original version. I DO HAVE THE ORIGINAL VERSION!
Then I tried to install patch #1 - went perfectly - followed by #2 - good ... good - and .... #3. ARGH! What the hell?! I do have the original version (UK "Best of Infogrames"). Does anybody have a clue about what to do?

My advice: do not install the third patch.
Do you really need it anyway?

Hi MR, this is a rather old and well know prob. Patch 3 has to be applied prior to the installation of the game. Run patch 3 and answer all the questions. It will ask you to insert Outcast CD1. Follow installation procedure until the end.
