Outcast AND Winxp compatibility - Can I play the game with Winxp?

I am considering getting this game, but before I do, Iwould like to know if anyone has had any trouble playing it in WinXP...
I read on some forums that some people have been unable to play it on Xp, so i wanna be sure.

yes it is possible. i am currently running the game on XP.
however, for some reason the third patch was acting weird and didn't install the game properly so i had to use the trick described here at Outcastii.net (creating this "dummy" file...). the main disadvantage of this technique is that you'll have to play the game unpatched (and pray that none of the big bugs occur ).

In connection with this, I would like to ask you guys one thing.

What is this "third" patch thingy?

I have one patch with me. It hasn't got any name, as such. I downloaded it a long time ago, from the official site, (which sadly indeed, no longer exists ) I downloaded it as six seperate files, 5 rar and one executable to combine them into one 11.5 MB executable.

This executable is, anyway, capable of installing the game even in Win XP. (I've installed it fine and have played it fine without any of the aforementioned bugs. I can't understand why there would be so many patches. (first, second, third etc)

Hi Shadow. This patch you are speakin about is the third and last patch released by Appeal actually. The two former ones turned obsolete after this release. And yes, it's working fine with XP.
